Fort Wellington
The fort recreates life in the Royal Canadian Rifle Regiment, stationed there in the 1840s. The blockhouse is the largest in Canada. The crowded living conditions of the blockhouse contrast with the comfort of the quarters assigned to the fort's commanding officer.

Battle of the Windmill
On the St. Lawrence River downstream from Prescott, the 60-foot, stone windmill was the site of the Battle of the Windmill in November 1838. The battle pitting 600 British and Canadian troops and 250 Americans who came to liberate Canada from England, lasted four days.

Nor’wester and Loyalist Museum
The Georgian-style structure, built in 1862, depicts the story of Sir John Johnson and Loyalists who settled here in 1784 after the American Revolution. The museum also contains fur-trade memorabilia from principal partners of the North West Company who settled in the area.

Sir John Johnson Manor House
The house was built for Sir John Johnson between 1784 and 1792. The home provided a focus for the United Empire Loyalists and later for the fur traders of the North West Company. This five-bay, Georgian-style log home, one of the oldest in Ontario, houses the Glengarry Archives.

Madison Barracks
This living museum of military architecture played a part in every war involving the U.S. from the War of 1812 to World War II. Occupied in 1816, the barracks were completed in 1819, intermittently garrisoned until after the Civil War and were a Hospital Post in WWI and a training post in WWII.

The site by the St. Lawrence River played a major role in the development of river transportation. At first a portage for Aboriginal peoples, Coteau-du-Lac became a bypass for soldiers and civilians. In 1779, the lock canal constructed here was the first in North America.
